A Perfect Fit for Any Space with Drawer Insert Designer
There are lots of drawer organizers and cutlery trays on the market these days, but what makes Drawer Insert Designer so special is that it allows you and your clients to create entirely customized drawer inserts to suit any space and purpose. We take pride in creating high quality, durable wooden inserts that are made to measure for a perfect fit. But in order to do so, we need you to take careful measurements first. Not to worry–the process is very simple.
Step 1:
Decide which drawers need inserts, and give each one a name (for example, “cutlery,” “knives,” “napkins and towels,” etc.). Make a list of the drawer inserts you need.
Step 2:
Take measurements and record them on your list. If the drawer is not already empty, take out the contents. Make sure you are taking the measurements from the narrowest point inside the drawer, factoring in curved or angled sides, as well as any hardware on the inside of the drawer. If the sides of the drawer are straight and there is no hardware on the inside, simply measure at the top, bottom, and middle, and write down the smallest of the three measurements. You can watch the Measuring Guidelines video here for more detailed instructions. Once you have measured the depth and width of the inside of the drawer, subtract ⅛” from each measurement to determine the optimal size for your drawer insert. We can work with very precise measurements, down to 1/16th of an inch.
Step 3:
Decide on the layout for each drawer insert. Start by collecting the items that will be stored in each drawer. Then cut a piece of paper to the same size that the drawer insert will be and place the items on top in the preferred arrangement, leaving ⅜” (about the width of a pencil) around the edges and between sections to represent the walls of the insert. Measure the spaces and note them on your list. It’s also a good idea to take a photo to remind you of the layout and what you’ll be storing in this insert. Repeat until you have planned out every insert on your list.
Step 4:
Create your design using our easy-to-use software. The great thing about using Drawer Insert Designer is that you can use one of our templates as a starting point and adjust the size of each section to suit the items you want to store in it, or you can create a totally unique design to accommodate your storage needs. Check our templates first to see if any of them is suitable for your insert designs, as they can save you even more time. Remember, you can always delete any dividers you don’t need from a template design.
Step 5:
Add special details, like cutouts, knife blocks, and spice racks to your insert designs. Cutouts make it easier to pull items out of narrow spaces in a drawer insert, so we recommend using them for cutlery and other cooking tools like tongs and spatulas. For a spice rack, make sure you have left a space in your design that is 4 3/4” deep and between 4-16” wide. You can adjust the position of some dividers and/or delete a divider to create an appropriate space if you don’t already have one in your design. For a knife block, first note the size of the knives that are to be stored in this drawer and make sure they will fit inside the insert. We offer a 7-12” long knife block for smaller knives, and a larger option for knives over 12” long.
Step 6:
Add each insert design to your cart, labeling it with the name you gave it earlier (i.e.: “napkins and towels”), and place your order. We will send you an Order Review to ensure all of the details are correct, and you can make any necessary adjustments at that time. We’ll start manufacturing once we have your confirmation that the designs are correct. Your inserts will be shipped within 2 weeks of your Order Review being approved. We’re proud to offer such a quick turnaround time for a unique and useful product, and we know you and your clients will enjoy not just the customizable features but also the fantastic quality and attractive look of our drawer inserts.
