Choosing the Best Material for Your Custom Wooden Drawer Inserts
At Drawer Insert Designer, we make custom wooden drawer organizers of much higher quality than the other options on the market. Unlike mass-manufactured wooden inserts or cheap plastic trays, we offer a unique opportunity for your customers to optimize their space to suit their habits and needs. Not only are they handmade to order in Ontario by our experienced team of knowledgeable craftsmen, our wooden inserts are made of durable, beautiful materials, add a touch of sophistication, and complement the design of any space.
Our Materials
We use only FSC-certified, sustainably sourced Canadian lumber for our custom drawer inserts, and we currently offer four different material options: cedar, maple, walnut, or oak. The bottoms are made of ¼” MDF with wood veneer laminate on both sides to match the wood selection. If you prefer, you can also opt for bottomless drawer inserts. We use a low-VOC water based finish which is sprayed on to seal the surface, making our products easy to clean, durable, and long-lasting.
Wood Options
Choosing the wood species to use is a matter of taste, budget, and overall design aesthetic.
We’re proud to offer our custom drawer inserts in maple, walnut, oak, or cedar to match cabinet finishes and blend seamlessly with the design of any space.
Maple
Just as durable as walnut or oak, maple is our most affordable option. It has a light colour and smooth grain pattern.
Walnut
Dark walnut wood creates a unique, sophisticated look for custom cutlery drawer inserts, with its beautiful grain pattern and rich brown tones.
Oak
Oak is a classic and timeless finish for drawer organizers. Light in colour, dense and durable, oak is very commonly used for furniture and flooring, too.
Cedar
Cedar wood is a great option for clothes drawers. It naturally repels moths and other bugs, protecting wool and fine knitwear so that clothes last longer. This power comes from the natural oils in the wood. The fragrance of cedar repels clothes moths and prevents them from laying eggs on garments. Clothes moths live on keratin, the protein found in animal fibers. That means their larvae can destroy not only wool but also leather, fur, feathers, and silk – in other words, all of the most valuable clothing in a closet. Cedar will protect a wardrobe’s contents while also keeping clothes smelling fresh. Its pleasant scent creates a wonderful aroma every time the drawer is opened.
Cedar wood is also a natural humidifier, removing excess moisture from the air. This makes it a great option for humid spaces like bathrooms, where it can help keep drawers clean, fresh, and mildew-free.
Felt Bottoms
For jewelry and watches, adding a felt bottom to a custom drawer organizer elevates the design with a touch of luxury and sophistication while protecting valuable items from scratches. We use durable, high quality wool felt and you can choose between four classic colours: black, red, royal blue and emerald green. Felt bottoms protect drawer contents and make the experience of storing and organizing precious items that much more luxurious.
